During the fall of 2022, I had the opportunity to join Vosyn as a UI/UX design intern for a period of four months. I was part of a team of six other designers, and I had the privilege of co-leading the team. The projects I worked on involved visualizing the product and developing the company's website, which serves as a central hub for marketing and PR purposes. While I'm unable to disclose specific details due to the project's confidentiality under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), and as the product has not yet been launched, I will share some of my responsibilities and the valuable lessons I gained during my internship program.
The UI/UX team was a newly established department within the company. During the initial weeks of my internship, our primary focus was on acquiring resources and gathering information about the company from the existing teams. We held daily meetings with other team leaders and the co-founders to align ourselves with the overall product vision and understand stakeholders' expectations.
This first phase of my internship was quite challenging, considering that I had zero experience in the industry and I had to adapt myself with the fast-paced or agile environment that the company adopts. In addition to that, I also had the responsibility to lead the team and make sure that we are in the correct path to achieve our end goal.
Once we had sufficient resources, we began to gain momentum and make rapid progress through the ideation and design processes. Although we have lots of ups and downs during the first couple of months, we trust on each other's capability and always seek on continuous feedback from other team leads.
Working in a startup environment has taught me that being a jack of all trades is not only beneficial but essential. The dynamic and fast-paced nature of startups requires me to step out of my comfort zone and tackle tasks beyond my usual capabilities, which has significantly accelerated my learning and skill diversification. This experience has honed my problem-solving abilities, fostered an entrepreneurial mindset, and increased my adaptability, making me more versatile and effective in my role as a product designer. The broad exposure and responsibility I've gained have been invaluable in shaping my professional growth and preparing me for future career opportunities.
